What is CRECE Lab?
The CRECE lab is a research lab led by Dr. David Menendez at the University of California-Santa Cruz.CRECE is the Spanish word for growth! Which is important to us, a lab that studies human development. CRECE is also an acronym for the topics we study. It stands for Cognition, Representation, Education, Culture, and Environment. We are researching some questions, like:
– How does culture influence child development?
– How do people think and learn about STEM concepts?
– How can we modify books, lessons, or educational materials to help children understand science better?

We have studied at the UCSC campus, community sites, and online. In our studies, children typically answer questions about different STEM topics. These topics include metamorphosis, genetic inheritance, evolution, illness, death, mathematical operations and symbols, and astronomy. See our Current Projects page for more information about the studies we recruit for!
